Young Women’s Peacebuilding Fellowship

A fellowship like no other…

The Young Women’s Peacebuilding Fellowship (YWPF) is a program devoted to engaging and educating young women on the theory and practice of peacebuilding. The program explores new possibilities at the intersection of peace and technology. We welcome students from diverse backgrounds to contribute fresh perspectives, encouraging them to explore their own ideas and academic background to peacebuilding. Those who participate in the fellowship will walk away with an unmatched academic experience, a network of peacebuilding experts, and unforgettable hands-on experiences. 

The YWPF is a partnership between Innovations in Peacebuilding International and the Carter School Center for Peace Technology and Entrepreneurship at George Mason University. See our 2022 alumni here.


The 2025 Fellowship will take place from May 30 - June 15, 2025 in Washington, DC and is open to women in undergraduate programs across the country who are pursuing careers in peace, technology, or entrepreneurship.

Key Features of 2025 Fellowship:

  • Interactive lessons from scholars and practitioner experts in the peacebuilding, technology, and entrepreneurship fields.

  • Field visits to the U.S. Institute of Peace and foreign embassies to discuss peace and security with diplomats.

  • Hackathon to develop real-world innovative solutions to today’s pressing conflicts.

FAQs

  • Women undergraduate students who have demonstrated an interest in peacebuilding, technology, or business as a focus of study and/or career are encouraged to apply.

  • Applications for the 2025 cohort are open from October 15 - December 20, 2024.

  • While there is no participation fee, fellows are responsible for their own accommodation, travel, and meal expenses.

  • Please see our programming guide for more information on the application process.

  • We're looking for students from one of the three fields (peace / conflict, tech, business) who are eager to explore the intersection of their expertise with other disciplines. No prior knowledge in those disciplines is required, but fellows should be open-minded, creative, motivated, and curious.

  • Nuria List

    Nuria List is a Dual Master's student at the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the University of Malta. She has a background in European Studies. Her special interests are in conflict resolution and peacebuilding in urban environments and female entrepreneurship in conflict areas.

  • Hannah Roberts

    Hannah is a dedicated mother of two and has recently celebrated 15 years of marriage. Originally from Texas, she has called Northwest Arkansas home for the past 18 years. A passionate entrepreneur, Hannah owns a growing hospitality group focused on food, art, and social engagement, where she channels her creativity into interior design as well as brand building and social media strategies. Hannah also recently founded a local chapter for Hot Mess Express, a nonprofit organization led by women volunteers that assists other women with housekeeping and organization in their homes. In her free time, Hannah enjoys cooking, weekends at the lake, traveling, practicing yoga, and immersing herself in a good book.

  • Sara Salama Mauldin

    Sara is an international attorney with a background in French civil law, English common law, and international human rights law. A member of the New York State Bar, she currently serves as Associate General Counsel for Human Rights Watch, where she provides strategic legal counsel on complex global issues. Previously, she headed the legal department for Egypt's largest international development organization focused on empowering women and children through education. In her free time, Sara can be found spending time with her family, hiking, dancing, reading and traveling.
